Statement from Mr David Sprason CC, Deputy Leader of Leicestershire County Council
A mistake on my part, five years ago, for which I apologised at the time, is now the subject of press interest.
I have asked the Leader to arrange for an investigation to take place under the Conservative group rules applying to member conduct. In the interests of the reputation of the Conservative Group and that of the County Council, I have decided to stand down, voluntarily, as Deputy Leader and Cabinet Lead Member for Adults and Communities, while the investigation takes place.
I hope you understand I cannot comment further at this time.
