Nick Rushton meets local County Councillors at Barwell Library
County Council leader Nick Rushton met up at the George Ward Centre in Barwell on 6th November, which also houses the local library, to meet up with county councillors Ruth Camamile (Mallory) and Janice Richards (Earl Shilton).
The meeting was organised by Ruth and Janice so local residents and community groups could meet up with the leader and officers to discuss the options and issues regarding the library’s future.
Nick Rushton said, “I’m grateful to Ruth and Janice organising this meeting. We have been running a consultation exercise since the summer and events like this will help the County Council’s thinking. If Barwell wants to retain a library service, it is essential partnerships are made between residents, community groups as well as the local councils. The George Ward Centre is an impressive facility. I would urge the community comes together, talks to officers, explore the options available and submits a bid for consideration. Together, we can make this happen.”
Barwell county councillor Ruth Camamile said, “It was a really productive meeting. The George Ward Centre is a great place to meet up, have a coffee, chat, go to the library and meet people. It is the hub of the community and it should be used more than it is.”
Janice Richards echoed these feelings, saying, “We have an opportunity to get a bid into the County Council. There is a lot of support, help and advice on offer from the County council to help communities interested in taking on the running of their library. Ruth and I will do all we can to work with the community and officers at County Hall, so Barwell keeps its library.”
