Deborah was born in the north of England and grew up moving around different parts of the UK. For the past two decades, she’s proudly called Anstey home, where she lives with her husband Paul and their two rescue dogs, Duke and Bliss. She’s a devoted wife, mum, and grandmother.
Since settling in Anstey, Deborah has thrown herself into community life. She served on Anstey Parish Council for eight years, most of that time as Vice-Chairman, and was first elected to Charnwood Borough Council in 2015. Deborah joined the Cabinet in 2019 as Lead Member for Communities, Wellbeing and Safety — a role in which she worked tirelessly to support residents, strengthen community safety, and improve local services.
In 2017, Deborah was elected as the County Councillor for Bradgate Division. Her strong leadership and track record saw her appointed Cabinet Support Member for Children and Families and Community Safety in 2019, and then promoted to Cabinet Lead for Children and Families in 2020.
Under Deborah’s leadership, Children’s Services transformed from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Outstanding’, a remarkable achievement that reflects her commitment to protecting the most vulnerable in our communities.
Following the May 2025 elections, Deborah became Leader of the Opposition at Leicestershire County Council. She also serves as Shadow Cabinet Lead for Neighbourhoods and Communities at Charnwood Borough Council.
Deborah has a reputation for rolling up her sleeves and getting things done. She’s tackled everything from individual resident concerns to the complex challenges of large-scale housing developments, always fighting for what’s best for local people.
Today, she continues to work closely with colleagues and communities across Leicestershire, championing local priorities, supporting residents, and holding the administration to account on the issues that matter most.
