James has lived in Charnwood for almost his entire life and has extensive local government experience, having served at every level:
- Parish Councillor in Quorn (2009–2011),
- Borough Councillor for the Wreake Villages (2013–2023),
- County Councillor since 2017.
At Charnwood Borough Council, James held a number of Cabinet Lead Member roles:

- HR and Electoral Services,
- and three years as Lead Member for Public Housing.
At Leicestershire County Council, he served for approximately a year as Cabinet Lead Member for Business Continuity and Transformation, working with finance colleagues and across the authority to deliver efficiencies and improve service delivery.
At the heart of James’ work is supporting residents across Syston Fosse. He regularly attends the seven town and parish councils in the division and works closely with partners including the Environment Agency and Severn Trent on flood prevention and mitigation. Since 2021, he has helped secure around £50,000 for road and pedestrian safety improvements, and has supported community groups in unlocking thousands more for local projects through Section 106 funding.
James is married with two children. Outside of council work, he’s usually walking the family dog Finn, spending time with his kids, or supporting local hospitality in Syston and surrounding villages. He’s also a lifelong Liverpool FC supporter—following the family tradition—and gets to matches as often as he can with his dad and eldest son.
